The Mert Lawwill designed rear suspension is a true work of art. I've seen a few older Gary Fishers but none with Campagnolo components. This was probably one of the top end mountain bikes to have 20 years ago.<br />MOMBAT has a great write up along with pictures of a complete bike.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7VBftByI6cDT921Ecb81vnocjYxWRPtitmhX5d44uVqH6W5d-lPZdXGvIYTo4EiW45nTCukf-MwI96SOxNOYbnybOn-XJdiO-wGGpILhTizxrJ6JlYk2R8XuTuipUN3NQpd3ZZd7X_mqW/s1600/bikes+2-17-12+023.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; This 58 cm Fuji Opus IV is in near perfect condition. There are just a few touched up spots on this Feather S145 Cr-Mo frame.<br /><br />Here is where it gets sketchy. The 1988 catalog shows a white Opus IV with a Shimano Sante group.<br /><br />This beauty is charcoal. The front and rear derailers are Suntour Superbe. It sports a Sugino Super Mighty crank (which is a work of art with "drillium" alloy) and seat post. The Nitto Pearl stem and 155 bars are pristine. I would assume all this equipment was original.<br />The wheel set is definately not original. Ambrosia 700c rims laced to Campagnolo Record hubs. This will be one bike that will be hard to let go.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYVVplIAYxndIsnh5a_v3l3pM7BBRj_F4qLFE5KM5lG5s5ZwMNl4fR-R657ocvOT4s1LmY4C66-SPeDAMoxbbODzXaKaWswMIlS6DJUSSusAgS1xAIsQfpSv3gBauOsue_2L6Kez10eMV6/s1600/bikes+4-13-11+083.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 267px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5608233295249922354" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYVVplIAYxndIsnh5a_v3l3pM7BBRj_F4qLFE5KM5lG5s5ZwMNl4fR-R657ocvOT4s1LmY4C66-SPeDAMoxbbODzXaKaWswMIlS6DJUSSusAgS1xAIsQfpSv3gBauOsue_2L6Kez10eMV6/s400/bikes+4-13-11+083.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggSO-xe1nkdopsiAsj-1Rpto8m1q0CHZsbVkIYM3ScI-shaUd-2pbnTr_qYcUrf_CpQtppRa0XCLHfvWXO3f9W41Wl5Cf2Msko_NH5UY020mWZVuf2qHsNwQ78YBfiomcYTS7fRmGA7OPy/s1600/bikes+4-13-11+085.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 400px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 267px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5608233287459578114" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggSO-xe1nkdopsiAsj-1Rpto8m1q0CHZsbVkIYM3ScI-shaUd-2pbnTr_qYcUrf_CpQtppRa0XCLHfvWXO3f9W41Wl5Cf2Msko_NH5UY020mWZVuf2qHsNwQ78YBfiomcYTS7fRmGA7OPy/s400/bikes+4-13-11+085.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAVflAtCIChVKk9ovq4qF7w8Idsx84szoWzeTAwVu-tx2JoAMXm1kAWVbXi7NCfvSpD2uQvc4DWjJY5KruYrzjzcjil3i6SFEm2ETiLy_Pn4cTK6bmBisiLS2GNxue4eEaBA0DEBHh52NY/s1600/bikes+4-13-11+086.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 400px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 267px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5608233281960870370" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAVflAtCIChVKk9ovq4qF7w8Idsx84szoWzeTAwVu-tx2JoAMXm1kAWVbXi7NCfvSpD2uQvc4DWjJY5KruYrzjzcjil3i6SFEm2ETiLy_Pn4cTK6bmBisiLS2GNxue4eEaBA0DEBHh52NY/s400/bikes+4-13-11+086.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgguZ5EwszLAOZVZRCF_jwiAhX2uzC3g4KXNCCLsepNU8vUEn7WjE9hEhT6OV6j9gbPCuQdeR_3TVLWFoy3Onhy7Gwhe8w_-xHS16Gbszb20p3W0qUS395m5SawojfOFd16emQ7rQHnjzOE/s1600/bikes+4-13-11+088.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 400px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 267px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5608233277386584850" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgguZ5EwszLAOZVZRCF_jwiAhX2uzC3g4KXNCCLsepNU8vUEn7WjE9hEhT6OV6j9gbPCuQdeR_3TVLWFoy3Onhy7Gwhe8w_-xHS16Gbszb20p3W0qUS395m5SawojfOFd16emQ7rQHnjzOE/s400/bikes+4-13-11+088.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div>Cyclops Vintage Bikeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07607618409464508216noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8047701124788023790.post-5445247158726207882011-05-15T18:41:00.000-07:002011-05-21T03:11:11.402-07:00Lawrenceburg-Dillsboro Station Ride Report<iframe height="350" marginheight="0" src="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=100+Vine+St,+Lawrenceburg,+IN+47025&daddr=39.04571,-84.94266+to:39.0481649,-84.9754029+to:Dillsboro+Station,+Sparta,+IN+to:38.98435,-85.00361+to:39.02849,-84.88805+to:100+Vine+St,+Lawrenceburg,+IN+47025&geocode=Fdh-VAId61Dx-ikNY-fNL9FBiDEF2ZqXCW3fMg%3BFU7KUwIdvODv-ilBotgvAHhqiDFP-t1sbyALLQ%3BFeTTUwId1mDv-im1jZCaKXhqiDHS2nQTJeOxbg%3BFVWPUwIdG2ru-il_FLDWuHBqiDHkYUaf6Zq4CQ%3BFZ7aUgIdpvLu-imbLR-bv3ZqiDGQLpsoz9arpQ%3BFQqHUwIdDrbw-iljvU9dz9lBiDHa0Y_EILW8mA%3BFdh-VAId61Dx-ikNY-fNL9FBiDEF2ZqXCW3fMg&hl=en&mra=dvme&mrsp=1&sz=13&via=1,2,4,5&sll=39.037453,-84.946632&sspn=0.066668,0.153637&ie=UTF8&ll=39.037453,-84.946632&spn=0.093335,0.145912&z=12&output=embed" frameborder="0" width="425" marginwidth="0" scrolling="no"></iframe><br /><small><a style="TEXT-ALIGN: left; COLOR: #0000ff" href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=embed&saddr=100+Vine+St,+Lawrenceburg,+IN+47025&daddr=39.04571,-84.94266+to:39.0481649,-84.9754029+to:Dillsboro+Station,+Sparta,+IN+to:38.98435,-85.00361+to:39.02849,-84.88805+to:100+Vine+St,+Lawrenceburg,+IN+47025&geocode=Fdh-VAId61Dx-ikNY-fNL9FBiDEF2ZqXCW3fMg%3BFU7KUwIdvODv-ilBotgvAHhqiDFP-t1sbyALLQ%3BFeTTUwId1mDv-im1jZCaKXhqiDHS2nQTJeOxbg%3BFVWPUwIdG2ru-il_FLDWuHBqiDHkYUaf6Zq4CQ%3BFZ7aUgIdpvLu-imbLR-bv3ZqiDGQLpsoz9arpQ%3BFQqHUwIdDrbw-iljvU9dz9lBiDHa0Y_EILW8mA%3BFdh-VAId61Dx-ikNY-fNL9FBiDEF2ZqXCW3fMg&hl=en&mra=dvme&mrsp=1&sz=13&via=1,2,4,5&sll=39.037453,-84.946632&sspn=0.066668,0.153637&ie=UTF8&ll=39.037453,-84.946632&spn=0.093335,0.145912&z=12">View Larger Map</a></small><br /><br />We all met at Cyclops Bikes at 7:30 Saturday. The weather <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">forecast</span> was for a 10% chance of rain until after lunch. That's all we needed for a quick ride to the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">Laughery</span> Creek and back before the shop opens at 10:00 (sharp).<br /><br />We started down the levee and along the Aurora-<span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error">Lawrenceburg</span> trail. This is a great connector to Aurora and I can't imagine riding a bike down 50 to do the same thing. The trail had been cleared of all flotsam and debris but there was a fine coating of mud on the low parts. We traveled along the trail, through <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-error">Lesko</span> Park in Aurora and survived the short stretch of 56 to <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_4" class="blsp-spelling-error">Laughery</span> creek. That stretch of 56 has got to be the roughest road in the county even after the patch job. The bike trail or lanes along 56 can't come soon enough even though it is probably one light year away.<br /><br />Immediately after hitting <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_5" class="blsp-spelling-error">Laughery</span> Creek Rd. it started to rain, steady. It was warm, about 65 so we weren't miserable, just annoyed. This road has great views of <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_6" class="blsp-spelling-error">Laughery</span> Creek and the low parts were covered with the same muddy film. We were all sporting brown stripes up our back sides. We decided to take a right onto Cole Lane to cut our trip short but missed it somehow. Being without a map (how can two boy scouts leave home unprepared?)we take a right onto 262 which took us close to <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_7" class="blsp-spelling-error">Dillsboro</span>. We crossed 50 and carefully zipped down the hill to <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_8" class="blsp-spelling-error">Dillsboro</span> Station and took a right onto South Hogan Rd. We followed Hogan Creek past our favorite dog to <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_9" class="blsp-spelling-error">Chesterville</span> Rd. I have always been concerned about rain on past rides. I think next time I will be less so. I was ready to go and then came a few weeks of out of town work, Christmas and New Years.<div><br /></div><div>I went to remove the seat post and ugh, it is stuck. Now I have removed seat posts before but only to save the seat post. I heated the seat tube while destroying the paint and the post came right out. I wanted to save both the seat post and bike frame on this project.</div><div><br />I gently spread the seat post clamp ears with a flat bar and poured some ammonia down the seat post. Ammonia will disolve the corrosion that takes place with the aluminum and steel galvanic reaction. I took a large adjustable wrench onto the seat post top and tried to turn. Nothing doing.</div><div><br />I then got into my plumbing kit, used the propane torch and heated the aluminum seat tube. I figured the expanding of the aluminum against the steel and the following cooling and contracting would loosen the corrosion. (You have to wait until the thing cools because while hot the post is even tighter against the steel seat tube.) I waited until the post was cool and again used the wrench. It came loose like it was nothing.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9F333IZJXj5eYLV9cqF3kdFHvFp8i7QRRR5ltQhQRPXXO3Q-65bsTfleYgNVoFbCNuKJNvC8SFiiXGoAFGyiQKO40HckuamPN3aagsK4YkpDkmJ1rxBPIKs2KnLMm9KgCEMceiv9BYuIe/s1600/bikes+208.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9F333IZJXj5eYLV9cqF3kdFHvFp8i7QRRR5ltQhQRPXXO3Q-65bsTfleYgNVoFbCNuKJNvC8SFiiXGoAFGyiQKO40HckuamPN3aagsK4YkpDkmJ1rxBPIKs2KnLMm9KgCEMceiv9BYuIe/s400/bikes+208.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561717443635942626" /></a><br />The stuck seat post could have been avoided with a little greasing every now and then or maybe even greasing it up in the first place. One of the best things about moving from North East Ohio to the Cincinnati area is the short, relatively mild winters and usually clear roads until January. I have not ridden since the Sunday after Thanksgiving and now the roads are full of sand, grit and salt. I am not a big indoor trainer guy either although I did get the beast out and dust it off but I just couldn't bring myself to hook up a bike to it. I guess I could go out for a run but that just seems like so much work and a miserable way to get a little excercise.</div><div><br /><div>So here is what I am going to do. I dragged a project bike out of the shed that I picked up earlier this fall. It's a 1984 Centurion Turbo 58 cm. It was their top of the line bike that year. It is just my size and will be a truly beautiful bike. It sports Champion #1 Cr-Mo tubing, chrome Suntour Pro dropouts, chrome crown on the fork and chrome ends on the seat stays. When we gather at my parents house for Thanksgiving weekend my brother and I go out for a ride. We normally go South of Richmond where there are few nice hills and scenery. This year we decided to tour our old stomping grounds of NE Wayne Co.</div><div>We started out before noon on Sunday and dodged all the mad shoppers as we crossed 40 towards New Paris Pike and <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Porterfield</span> Rd. <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Porterfield</span> was the most scenic part of the trip because once we got past <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">Middleboro</span> it was all typical Indiana flatland.</div><div>We nixed the idea of passing through Whitewater where we both went to elementary school. All that is left of the school is a vacant lot. </div><div>So it was off to Fountain City, our hometown and the home of Levi Coffin, "The Grand Conductor of the Underground Railroad". </div><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJVxq2x2bRrrRqNUDs-b58rfES-8R2_s-LSV6tixob4bluIMqPSwWGbqmMmUlqgJKhjeFHRjMAOr8DruU_crJH3is_lkL57NBLT8gN78hPqHE237dE7WpNuwX5Z04IQO-vJ3mewjFJdxhx/s400/bikes+158.jpg" style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5547597486972623874" /><div>Since it was only 40 we stopped to warm up and have a cup of coffee at the old Mrs. T's, now the Village Inn or something like that. We then rode through town and past the places where we lived and played. It's funny how things shrink. As a kid I remember being so far away from our house which in reality was just a couple of blocks.</div><div>We then headed west with a little detour to hit New Garden Rd. and then on to <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">Williamsburg</span>. Not much has changed there either. They did keep the school which is now a community center.</div><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1JAPzEyLAH8r5gRVtHqR2-9fWN7E9GVgRZ8LqYbUC_1h19rIoNw31v8IiJEoUcV7pypNn1GcwD-42kSZhJEbew5WWaDHZEdfEXHFC4DRD1zu1otY_fzwYR7cJSYyZMPaOgjw1EAk6s2Ar/s400/bikes+159.jpg" style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5547598024396696354" /><div>We picked up the Cardinal <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">Green </span><span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">Way</span> for an easy ride back into</div><div>Richmond. In a brief description everything is over the top beautiful. The Willamette Valley, Coastal area, Mt. Hood, Columbia River and Portland itself.<div>I had a day to myself while my wife was working in Portland. I drove the couple of hours to Hood River and rented a Giant OCR from Discover Bicycles. I rode out of town and East towards <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Rawena</span> Glen and The <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Dalles</span>. The route follows old 30 for awhile which is an engineering feet of the last century. Cliffs and tunnels and one really cool switchback coming down from <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">Rawena</span> Glen. </div><div>I dodged some bullets. It rained every day on our trip but only threatened rain and spit a little on my day off.</div><div>The <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">incredible</span> thing about this ride was the change in scenery. In the less than 20 miles I went to a rain <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">forest</span> kind of environment to a dryer one.<br />This was a memorable 45 mile ride and if you are ever in the area this is a must do, especially with a shop like Discover bicycles where you can rent a nice road bike for $30 for the day. <br /><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiW8rc5f-9bpJu38g2soBcWs77ZTZD3DZSp7LKJ77ro6jR0PfnzWsGobNhds3GrIV_a1wCoatY7qenvZfiKi0Tgo413lFKtFf4Ze9_StNYDaJVKA1p9eK_0XsIQgETbDMgBmnoieRMSzXq/s400/Hood+River%252C+OR+2.jpg" style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px;" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5544243866072302338" border="0" /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIaYGelYisP3JPUvmrv7f62gYRN3p24VSlK_cZijD0_8-lAZKzPtfpBMz-zHtwZWhpDZjVR1W2YC2whV9P0HeeVVdG6O1NSD6Ypm4BZ5aJzTSoq6Q8Z4J9Jcijado7lXghyphenhyphenNo1KCTam4pg/s1600/Hood+River%252C+OR+1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIaYGelYisP3JPUvmrv7f62gYRN3p24VSlK_cZijD0_8-lAZKzPtfpBMz-zHtwZWhpDZjVR1W2YC2whV9P0HeeVVdG6O1NSD6Ypm4BZ5aJzTSoq6Q8Z4J9Jcijado7lXghyphenhyphenNo1KCTam4pg/s400/Hood+River%252C+OR+1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5544243704331910274" border="0" /></a></div>Cyclops Vintage Bikeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07607618409464508216noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8047701124788023790.post-26794784485486343642010-11-23T14:49:00.000-08:002010-11-25T09:08:55.544-08:00Tomb Ride ReportA nice day for November 23rd; 50, sunny and not too windy and just enough time to go out for a quick ride. I never get tired of this ride; there is nature, history, beauty, some easy hills and a great down hill run.<br /><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 400px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5542911731659613426" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMTZgdXlwtyYU74xO3f2oeHwv6xLGypo44pLSWihJF4KMtze71dot1jmXsSzIG9uqDBGmwuGlFO-mN1vxYfHVcA9V_rNOBApKtWY6uqbdc404tdNS0VOm55wv4DpucBYg0_olkp-v75Hfo/s400/bikes+137.jpg" />I rode across the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">Lawrenceburg</span> Rd. "Lost Bridge" over the Great Miami River and am always on the lookout for bald eagles. There were none today but I did spot a couple of blue herons. The Great Miami is maybe a mile or so from the Ohio River at this bridge. At the point where the Miami meets the Ohio marks the Western edge of the old Ohio Territory and now the state line which runs due North and splits Ohio and Indiana.<br /><br />I took a right on Bower Rd. and followed the Miami R. towards the Ohio R. and on the left is Shawnee Lookout State Park. The <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">Indians</span> used this site as a lookout and camp to see who was coming and going on both these river highways. I followed Bower Rd. which runs along the Ohio by the Duke power plant. This is called the Miami Fort plant because Fort <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error">Finney</span> was built on the site after the revolutionary war to subdue Indians in the area.<br /><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 400px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5542912679694145634" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAktFGejU7B9yOBX2JdI6gvwFMUmjUYFxKkpechBLR1f5z9gTQwTqSaUdxYUi022JtdwiRz9z6rI5V_tk3HNsib9YdR5uxDdkj-hP289imyvjO_wYngHhgee9Ov9ML2vxJqg3Y92Uorupr/s400/bikes+138.jpg" /> <div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>I then followed Bower Rd. We hit it pretty hard with the hill out of Harrison, and kept a pretty good speed 19-20 mph all the way to Cedar Grove. The Big Cedar Rd. portion is perfect; downhill, peaceful and beautiful. The Gobbler's knob hill is allways a killer. Sometimes I make it and sometimes I don't make it without stopping. Today was a day I didn't make it. The St. Peter's Rd. portion seemed to have a lot more gravel than usual (from recent course asphalt patches) which is a drag because it is a usually a great downhill run. All in all it was a great 38 mile ride followed by a cold one in the VFW parking lot.Cyclops Vintage Bikeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07607618409464508216noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8047701124788023790.post-32008291309485163512010-10-22T11:01:00.000-07:002010-11-13T04:39:06.293-08:00Can I go riding?<object width="480" height="390"><param name="movie" value="http://www.xtranormal.com/site_media/players/jwplayer.swf"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><param name="flashvars"value="height=390&width=480&file=http://newvideos.xtranormal.com/standard/bb06e07e-7204-11df-b459-003048d6740d_6_standard_medium-flv.flv&image=http://newvideos.xtranormal.com/standard/bb06e07e-7204-11df-b459-003048d6740d_6_standard_poster.jpg&link=http://www.xtranormal.com/watch/6694173&searchbar=false&autostart=false"/><embed src="http://www.xtranormal.com/site_media/players/jwplayer.swf" width="480" height="390" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=390&width=480&file=http://newvideos.xtranormal.com/standard/bb06e07e-7204-11df-b459-003048d6740d_6_standard_medium-flv.flv&image=http://newvideos.xtranormal.com/standard/bb06e07e-7204-11df-b459-003048d6740d_6_standard_poster.jpg&link=http://www.xtranormal.com/watch/6694173&searchbar=false&autostart=false"></embed></object><object width="480" height="390"><param name="movie" value="http://www.xtranormal.com/site_media/players/embedded-xnl-stats.swf"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.xtranormal.com/site_media/players/embedded-xnl-stats.swf" width="1" height="1" allowscriptaccess="always"></embed></object>Cyclops Vintage Bikeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07607618409464508216noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8047701124788023790.post-39636894051847204172010-10-22T07:52:00.001-07:002010-10-28T05:10:54.007-07:001988 Terry Gambit<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC_miJXOx2QjX6oxc_Gkj0iMU-OFqX33h7CNaw9uzROMDowJIUAVK90WiPuOLCnBfk0MNfo3zVTGWLBzIZuRQZP_Xon6PIxkLUKGoDXRf4MSO8vl7nbwa0JVFKXrfyeCBc0Cn2fDKgGKql/s1600/Terry+Gambit+1.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 400px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 267px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5531029062762852162" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC_miJXOx2QjX6oxc_Gkj0iMU-OFqX33h7CNaw9uzROMDowJIUAVK90WiPuOLCnBfk0MNfo3zVTGWLBzIZuRQZP_Xon6PIxkLUKGoDXRf4MSO8vl7nbwa0JVFKXrfyeCBc0Cn2fDKgGKql/s400/Terry+Gambit+1.jpg" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMcEEYvHMl1YpcQRnBLlr3wxhhky6-LswObU7mMbqR_TWaB2zD1kolrH-Fyb41x3TVqCZKUs0976RGPn-YowyfmgAkcyltC3o715Ln92poUp6cSgmSMnODL2_eapbyiyLVxVKoHrVBv9s3/s1600/bikes+073.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 400px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 267px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5530888865698994050" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMcEEYvHMl1YpcQRnBLlr3wxhhky6-LswObU7mMbqR_TWaB2zD1kolrH-Fyb41x3TVqCZKUs0976RGPn-YowyfmgAkcyltC3o715Ln92poUp6cSgmSMnODL2_eapbyiyLVxVKoHrVBv9s3/s400/bikes+073.jpg" /><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;"><b><br /></b></span></a><b><br /></b><br />My 10 year old son has been wanting to go riding on a "real" bike (as opposed to his Trek mountain bike) with his older brother and I. The big problem was finding a road bike with a short standover height.<br />I found this women's bike built by Georgina Terry on the Dayton, OH CL and snagged it. These bikes were and are still made primarily for short legged women. It had a cheap saddle, upright bars and levers, well worn tires but in pretty decent shape. It is a cro moly frame, has a nice Sugino VP triple crank, 6 speed freewheel and Shimano indexed shifting.<br /><br />We first stripped everything down to<br />the bare frame and my 10 year old insisted on removal of any trace of girl related evidence. After a complete cleaning of the frame I then overhauled the bottom bracket and headset. I went ahead and did the hubs at the same time.<br />I had a set of Nitto drop bars and stem from who knows where that worked. I then ordered some Crane Creek levers that have a closer reach than normal. I also ordered replacement 27" and 24" Panaracer Pasela tires and tubes. They are about the only manufacturer of 24" x 1" tires and were kind of hard to find.<br />The wheels were in pretty good shape with just a little truing necessary.<br />We cleaned and polished rims, brakes, derailers and crank. New cables, a San Marco saddle, carbon look bar tape, matching bottle holder and an old Pedro's seat bag completed the project.<br /><br /><br />My 10 year old along with my 15 year old and I went on a 11 mile test drive on Saturday. We parked near the Richmond, IN airport and planned to ride a block that went into Ohio and back. This is probably the flattest route I knew but as luck would have it we had a pretty good breeze which of course he thought was going against him the whole way. He enjoyed how much easier it was to pedal and how fast he could go down the "hills". As soon as he gets used to letting go of one hand to shift we will show him some real hills.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ0A785vFdK8UB2C0bPcDVT4tYaQq4w5rWGAa91SEWqD3_4Es7enXAWdFRZHrqfyjN_GbwNbjBy0gpfBJJNL3eHDVo9JBXO5QW9zjr6hOWF88Uf-1WiOPKU37VG2N-uAiH-R5V0kKt83_C/s1600/bikes+073.jpg"></a>Cyclops Vintage Bikeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07607618409464508216noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8047701124788023790.post-48215975444854861312009-12-03T17:38:00.000-08:002011-02-21T08:48:02.236-08:00Post Thanksgiving, Abington, IN Ride<iframe height="350" marginheight="0" src="http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=103606914829918385071.00049379cfac5001cea77&t=p&ll=39.77826,-84.898139&spn=0.090099,0.12967&output=embed" frameborder="0" width="425" marginwidth="0" scrolling="no"></iframe><br /><small>View <a style="TEXT-ALIGN: left; COLOR: #0000ff" href="http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=103606914829918385071.00049379cfac5001cea77&t=p&ll=39.77826,-84.898139&spn=0.090099,0.12967&source=embed">Richmond to Abington, IN</a> in a larger map</small><br /><small><a style="TEXT-ALIGN: left; COLOR: #0000ff" href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=embed&saddr=Backmeyer+Rd,+Richmond,+IN+47374&daddr=39.8215,-84.868526+to:39.823172,-84.8754657+to:39.82331,-84.88476+to:39.804447,-84.8845514+to:39.74848,-84.89001+to:Abington,+IN+to:39.74115,-84.85256+to:39.781625,-84.8333041+to:Backmeyer+Rd,+Richmond,+IN+47374&geocode=FRGkXwIdGEPx-inxg54h1AZAiDFJYc0bsZ1m3w%3BFbygXwIdUgLx-inDCFjnJQFAiDFuNP1M0kQS6A%3BFUSnXwIdN-fw-ilZUcSEIQFAiDHMwCtdEQmo3A%3BFc6nXwId6MLw-ikPPwMTHAFAiDEN4oxsDHB91g%3BFR9eXwIducPw-ilNA0rxbAFAiDEg4bSh4MjQ7Q%3BFYCDXgIdZq7w-inthis7rwNAiDGeJ5Bklfj2Zw%3BFW9HXgIdN5Hv-inp-o_RQKhqiDHceW1Ocan8-A%3BFd5mXgIdsEDx-imvIXgbgQRAiDF6QOyDCPOEHw%3BFfkEXwId6Ivx-indSeF3IQRAiDExDfRqdJbb6g%3BFRGkXwIdGEPx-inxg54h1AZAiDFJYc0bsZ1m3w&hl=en&mra=ls&via=1,2,3,4,5,7,8&sll=39.77842,-84.898125&sspn=0.150395,0.267105&ie=UTF8&t=p&ll=39.77842,-84.898125&spn=0.09084,0.12969">View Larger Map</a></small>On Sunday, 11/29, my brother and I went for a ride to help digest the second huge feast of the Thanksgiving Holiday. We rode from Richmond to Abbington to visit the grave of my great, great, great grandfather who fought in the Civil War. We started South on Niewoehner Rd. and we about lost the giblets on the first big hill. We continued on SR 227 past the airport to Boston. We turned West onto old SR 122 and Potter Shop Rd. and across the Whitewater River into Abbington. We visited the cemetery, paid our respects and headed back the same way. We turned North onto Straight Line Pike which was a fun roller coaster and into Richmond. A real nice and quick 25 mile ride on a beautiful day with a few good hills.
